Indeed! A simple calling and chatting app version for the desktop would be great! It's very busy when we launch the app

This post from YEARS ago on MS forums already raised the pain point. Unbelievable that such a simple high value add tweak is still missing to date:

Tried moving to the web app in the new chromium Edge browser on Mac - best Teams experience on Mac so far. However, still have to hold meetings in the slow, memory guzzling, desktop app because the grid view is not activated on your web app. Google Meet has had this on the web since Day 1, it should be standard by now. Please implement ASAP.

This is currently in Preview – planned to release very soon.

In the following weeks, Teams will be rolling out support on Safari 11+ on macOS. While in preview, there are known issues with Safari’s ITP mode and it is advised that users disable Safari’s Intelligent Tracking Prevention.

Zoom, Cisco Webex and many more have G-Suite integrations. Why not MS Teams?

Using Teams as a web app (in Edge Chromium browser) as it is MUCH faster than the desktop app. In desktop app though I can choose my professional webcam instead of the cheap one attached to my laptop. Unable to do that with web app. Google Meet - a strictly web app - allows the selection of my webcam. I don't want to use a slow desktop app, prefer web-based. So until Microsoft solves this, I'm sticking to Google Meet for my video meetings.
