Thank you for your feedback. We’re happy to announce this is now available to users who opt into Public Preview.

Please see feature details here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-teams-public-preview/now-in-teams-public-preview-default-file-open-setting-for-office/m-p/2581566

You can learn more about the Microsoft Teams Public Preview program here: https://aka.ms/TeamsPublicPreview, and Teams administrators can find documentation to manage which users will see the Public Preview option here: https://aka.ms/TeamsPublicPreviewAdmin

Hard to understand why this has not been done yet. The default open Option (Teams Browser) is the one which provides the least functionality. MS Edge provides better functionality. I can only assume MS is prioritising Mobile functionality over Desktop functionality here. Until the user can choose, the logical default would be the one which provides the most functionality - i.e. Desktop App.

Thank you for your continued feedback, we have not forgotten about this ask. We have a feature on the backlog for popping out content, so you will be able to see one screen with the video gallery and one screen with the shared content. We will share an update as soon as one is available.

For the separate feature ask for full screen option, please upvote and comment at https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103/suggestions/41277121

For split screen camera and desktop, please upvote and comment at https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103/suggestions/37118773

This is hugely beneficial for people with dual screens or people using Teams in meeting rooms. I am surprised there are not more votes for it.

Agree with JB that the default for this should be controllable at Tennant level. Fit to frame in general provides a better an less distracting experience. It also avoids the 'swaying' effect that can occur when people move around in their cropped video making it look like the camera is swaying!

Fully support this. Required to reduce data sprawaland facilitate cross departmental collaboration with a reduced number of total teams and associated admin overhead.

This can also simplify and consolidate the underlying SharePoint structures whhile bringing better clarity to data ownership and accountability.

From the perspective of departments in large companies who work with other departments (e.g. IT, Finance, HR etc) the ability to add guests from other departments within the company to a channel within a Departmental Team would be extremely uesful. This would provide less data sprawl than the existing requirement to create a new Team and avoid having to add extra members to the Team just to give them file access for oversight.
