To me, the ability to switch a channel from private back to public, defeats the purpose of it having been private in the first place at all. The only way I as a user of a private channel would be okay with this switch ability is if all members of the group were notified and unanimous consent was given to allow the channel to be public.This prevents the channel owner from having sole discretion as to whether the information and data on the channel can be made public. I can see the case for development instances, in which case I would recommend a separate channel beta mode or ghost mode whereby a channel can be developed before releasing. As to the issue of forms, other plug-ins not working, having to change the channel to public is a workaround at best. Ultimately these plug-ins need to be enabled in private channels.
