Have been using teams on an ipad pro with airpods for nearly a year now.
It used to work more or less reliably at the beginning, but in Q3 2020 issues became much more frequent and from then it has only been worse. Today each call is a fight to get my airpods working.
I believe the trigger for the massive degradation has been changes apple made in roaming airpods between different devices (phone/laptop/tablet) which aggravated some bugs in Teams.
As reported by other users, this is really a Teams specific issue, other apps (zoom/spotify) work with no issue.Philippe Planchon supported this idea ·

We are continually working on improving battery life. One thing that may help in the meantime is using Dark theme, which was a top mobile request added to Teams mobile in February.
Thanks!

Teams is a battery killer on mobile. Worst Microsoft mobile app by far for battery usage. An that is not just when using video, even a pure chatting use case is incredibly power hungry.

For Apple users only: I managed to significantly increase stability of my primary Teams station (iPad + AirPod pro) by ... disabling Bluetooth on any other apple device I own that is within Bluetooth reach.
This is indeed a confirmation that the release by apple in iOS 14 / bigsur of an AirPod feature named "Automatic device switching transfers audio from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac" is a key aggravating factor for Teams unability to properly manage bluetooth.
