It seems like it would not be that difficult to carry that bit of code over from Skype to Teams. Sometimes I get called away for items locally and forget to switch to Away and just lock my computer to go deal with it. My supervisor is in a different location and it looks like I'm ignoring his calls because my status is Available. Really I'm just down the hall talking to a vendor that popped in unexpectedly. Or forgetting to change it back after I do remember to change it to away and looking like I'm not at my desk half the day.
If you can't make it change status when you lock your computer, can you make a key combo? I'm using Window+L to lock the screen. Two key combos would be much easier than mousing to the face, clicking it, clicking the status menu, picking the right status (not misclicking in haste), and making sure it changes. Then key stroke locking.
