We are getting closer, and are still working thru some bugs, but hope to release this as part of a Public Preview pack in early 2021! (Windows 10 released with the December 2020 pack this week)
You can learn more about the new Microsoft Teams Public Preview program here: https://aka.ms/TeamsPublicPreview, and Teams administrators can find documentation to manage which users will see the Public Preview option here: https://aka.ms/TeamsPublicPreviewAdmin

Our company is starting to use Teams more for collaboration and communication. Being a Mac user I simply expected that Teams would use the native macOS UserNotifications framework to provide notifications to the OS (it does with iOS anyhow).
I typically run most of my apps in native fullscreen mode. I'am flat out missing notifications because Microsoft, in it's infinite wisdom, figured it could build a proprietary notification system better than what Apple has already successfully built into their own operating systems. Come on Microsoft, if you want individuals and companies to take you seriously this time, please just take the path of least resistance and use the OS native UserNotifications framework.
Prior to Teams we have been using Slack (much better IMHO) and we have no issues it. Notifications will display, regardless if you are in fullscreen mode or not.
This should be expedited to the top of the list for the macOS Teams client as it's painful!
