Adding email as a left tab panel remains under review. We are working on adding several Teams and email integrations:

    - Share to Teams: Share a copy of an email and any attachments into a chat or channel directly from Outlook

    - Share to Outlook: Share a copy of a channel or chat conversation via email directly from Teams

    - Actionable Teams Activity Emails: Teams missed activity emails display the latest replies and allow you to reply directly from Outlook

See this post for more information:

    Thanks!

Yeah, the idea of integrating email is to keep us from having to turn to Outlook so often. I understand, you want to get people away from relying so heavily on email when using teams as intended could be much more effective. It just requires full buy-in from all users. At the enterprise level, this just doesn't happen. We need to be able to handle external contacts. By forcing email outside of Teams, users are forced to close Teams and open Outlook. Teams is at its best when users stay in Teams.

I do understand the performance risks when you try to get an application to do literally everything.

There's a lot of business to be done in a day that isn't relevant to a team. A personal workspace gives a lot of flexibility to incorporate these items into your daily workflow. Just above or below the teams tab could be a personal workspace tab that can be customized just like a one-person team. The more a user can stay within the Teams ecosystem, the more effective and widely adapted the current features can be.
