As we announced at Microsoft Ignite 2019 this morning, we are excited to confirm that Multi-window capabilities are coming to Microsoft Teams, and will start rolling out to the public ring early next year!

Hopefully this releases VERY early in 2020. The UI for Teams is greatly diminished by this inability alone. I have both Skype and Teams and always default to Skype so as to not have my entire screen taken over staring at a singular immense chat that I cannot easily navigate or view. This would have been a deal breaker for me had I been a part of the IT group reviewing this.Jessica commented
Disappointing product to come from MS when this is a basic functionality that virtually all programs come with out of the box. And then to hear that it is taking an exorbitant amount of time because there are "other" priority requests ahead of it. I would call this "low-hanging fruit" and a "quick win" to make a large population if users more amiable to other inadequacies. We are in the process of converting from Skype for Business to Teams however I will hang on to using Skype for as long as possible due to this incapability alone. Boo Microsoft.
We’re currently working on defining a compact mode experience. I will post more details when we have more to share.
