    I believe:
    A) there should be a channel manager role that allows this new functionality.
    • allows them to move new conversations into replies (ideally going into the correct spot via timestamp and maybe having a small one-line message at the bottom of the conversation notifying that a reply was added above with a link to it). Any replies to the conversation would also be moved to the new conversation.
    • They would also be able to break replies into a new conversation if it makes more sense and move any replies to that reply to said new conversation.

    B) Anyone can mark a conversation as needing to be a reply to an existing conversation.
    • The poster would get a notification of this
    • The poster would be able to click a link/button which would move it to the conversation for them.

    C) A poster always has the ability to move a reply to a conversation and vice versa (maybe drag-and-drop)

This functionality is very important to channels where there are many new users who are in the process of learning Teams. It's also important for the occasional mistake (and apparently for some management who seem to not have the time to find the right spot to click ☺).

Alternatively, having sub-channels would work (essentially the same thing, just a level deeper in the tree view).

Essentially, the problem I see is that if a Team is responsible for a group of products, each channel is a product, then there's no way to break it up further for specific topics on a product (e.g. bugs, help, announcements [this would be less of a problem since the announcement type was added if we could actually filter a channel to that type], etc.)

Obviously there are benefits other than the case where a team is responsible for more than one product, but that's a problem with one team that I'm a part of, so worked as an example.

You could use the convention that I've seen elsewhere, where you use :: to enclose the emoticon name. That way :p, etc can still be automatically converted (assuming there's no proceeding ':')

Thank you for your feedback! We are updating this as “Partialy Done” as our first step to solving for pinned posts has been released! Pinned posts allows users from a team to pin a message for everyone in the channel to be able to easily reference. While any message can be pinnable, we expect our users to use this feature to pin information like channel guidelines or important announcements. We know this doesn’t solve all pinning scenarios, and that there is still a need to make this easier for users to find, especially within the message list. We will share another update as soon as it is available.

I'm for having "pinned items" just populate in a separate tab similar to the wiki tab.
