If possible - I would suggest the following control in the Admin interface:

Able to message users with this policy: (Multi tick box of available call policies)

e.g. a user with the education_Teacher policy would be able to message education_Teacher & education_Student

a user with education_student would only be able to message users with education_Teacher policy

In the case where an education_Teacher user added 2 education_Student users to a chat, the chat would need to allow the 2 education_student users to see each other's messages

This leaves scope for allowing some students to chat to each other if a school allows it - e.g. An education_SixthForm user may be able to message education_SixthForm and education_Teacher

This would also be great in the other sections - such as calls and meetings.

This is essential for schools - without it call functionality is rendered pretty useless.

For those looking for a workaround: disable calling for students - and then when a teacher wishes to call a student, they use the Meet Now function instead and invite the student to the meeting. Not ideal, but works well enough to give teachers the option to call students without having unmanaged calls going on in the system.

Also, why is it, if the overall team has more than 200 people in it, that I can't create an assignment within that team for fewer than 200.

E.G. We have a tutor time team with all students in it. Within that team are private channels for each specific tutor group - that works well because we can use the General channel for whole school announcements, while the students can go to their specific private channel for resources from their tutor time.

However, if I want to then set an assignment in the General channel (because you don't support this in the private channels), and I assign it to 30 students (which I have to pick manually, because the student picker doesn't recognise the private channels as groups). Then I'll still get there over 200 error, even though I'm setting it for 30 students.

Thank you all for your continued feedback on this feature! We are still evaluating options, so for now the ‘Posts’ tab remains the default first tab for every team.

Great suggestions so far in the comments, but please do continue to share how you would use this feature so we can better understand the use case for our planning.

Hello everyone, a quick update on our work to integrate Teams Assignments with the Microsoft Calendar - its coming! We’ll provide an update shortly with dates. We know this has been a top request for some time and there is a team working on bringing this to Teams for EDU as soon as we can.

Agreed - I never understand why software imposes random limits. Just allow as many files as necessary.
