    there are several other uservoice suggestions that refer to this problem - maybe they could all be merged into this one, or a note could be added to them directing people to this one?

    Please allow the user to decide what sound is used, its volume, and for what events it occurs. It's fine to provide defaults, but please give the user some control over this.

    Perhaps something like the existing Windows model where one can modify sounds for each kind of event via the control-panel?

    @Kivi I agree with your concern -- you can up-vote the opposite suggestion: https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/34727641-remove-status-icon-in-windows

    Ideally this would just be an option that can be enabled or disabled from settings.

    Agreed, a 'red dot' on an icon often indicates that there are new messages waiting, etc., and the tray icon should not overload this meaning to indicate status.
