I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this feature request has been declined.

This makes Teams harder to understand and navigate for users plain and simple. They want to join a team and see their project's document repository, likely pre-dating the use of Teams, probably in SharePoint. An additional "Files" tab is just confusing to users. You can bury a SharePoint site in Files, but why? It just increases the user's insecurity with where their files are, and how to keep them under control.

Should definitely be possible to hide this tab, or re-direct to a specific SharePoint folder. Team is a user gateway into SharePoint. If SharePoint is already being used and Team ignores or obfuscates that history it creates yet another barrier to adoption.
