We are looking into making Teams available in the Apple Volume Purchase Program, which may also include Mac App Store. We will post an update here when it’s available.

We are working on a design with more density in mind. Until this design is solidified we are putting this item back to Under Review.

We are getting closer, and are still working thru some bugs, but hope to release this as part of a Public Preview pack in early 2021! (Windows 10 released with the December 2020 pack this week)
You can learn more about the new Microsoft Teams Public Preview program here: https://aka.ms/TeamsPublicPreview, and Teams administrators can find documentation to manage which users will see the Public Preview option here: https://aka.ms/TeamsPublicPreviewAdmin

Also, Paul Bowden's team is great at working with the MacAdmins community. Perhaps you should check out the feedback in that channel there :)

Also, just a note to Warren, it's Mac not MAC. As in Macintosh computer not Media Access Card, as in a ethernet card or the like.
As for the suggestion, the notification for updating should follow Apple's Human Interface guidelines, specifically the ones used for macOS upgrades that allow the user to defer till the end of the day or something like that. Basically transparency would be great.
