The lack of being able to receive and send SMS text to and from an Office 365 issued phone number brought our adoption of this feature within Teams to a screeching halt. Our employees want to be able to use the Teams app in their mobile phones to manage their work calls so we can replace our legacy, hard-wired, PBX-extension desk phones. If you give a direct dial number to a client, that client expects to be able to text you. Google Voice does this, why not Microsoft?
Thank you for the feedback. Changing the default setting is under review by the feature team, and your feedback is very useful as they are evaluating.
This feature item is still in the works. We will keep you posted as we have new info from the feature team.
