I could imagine it being set up like this:
Add one additional option for user status "Automatic". This would behave as the normal "Available" status seems to behave now:
* switch to "Away" after [insert-magic-number] minutes of inactivity (bonus: make [magic-number] configurable)
* switch to "Busy", "Presenting", "in-a-call", etc. depending on
** Teams mode (calling, sharing screen, logged out, ...)
** Linked Calendar (meetings)
Every other option should not do anything besides setting the icon & text. Simple as that. In fact, if i set my status to available and turn off all my devices, I should still be seen as available.
This shouldn't be that hard to implement (no additional functionality required, just moving functions around), yet it would give users back their control and (correct me if i'm wrong) would be incredibly intuitive, which is a UX dream, no?
