if you have an existing post that you want to show in a different channel, you can edit the message and cross-post. This will add the top-level post to the different channel, but will not include the full set of replies. We will keep this request in mind as we evolve the cross-posting feature in the future and update if the status changes.
Details on cross posting can be found here: https://support.office.com/article/cross-post-a-channel-conversation-in-teams-9c1252a3-67ef-498e-a7c1-dd7147b3d295.

I totally support this request. I would add that it's not even a question of habit: you can totally do the mistake even if you're used to Teams.
I would vote in favor of a "New message" button, on the bottom right corner, similar to what we have in most Android apps. Or adapt this to be more coherent with the other MS apps, the main idea is to have a dedicated button.
Thank you for your continued feedback. As many people have pointed out, this is available on mobile today. Support for replying to a specific message is on the backlog for desktop. I’ll let you know when we have progress to share. Thanks.
We are happy to announce that the New Conversation Button has started to roll to the general public, and should be rolled out 100% over the next week or so. We will share another update as soon as one is available.
Adding any emoji as a reaction remains under review.
I am marking this as partially done to let you know a new reactions bar with Like, Heart, Laugh, Surprised, Sad, and Angry has begun rolling out to all users.
