"Surprised that this basic stuff is awaiting 'User Voice' input. "
I think Microsoft is (or has become?) an amateuristic company in this regard.
It has always been at Microsoft: more/new features are more important than security. Billions of computers got malware via Windows. Later it went more to: remove good options which were available in newer versions, minimize the number of (configuration)options, ignore logic, ignore best practices, and ignore user input. Currently, this UserVoice has 198 votes. I think for every vote, there are 10.000 to 100.000 people who are affected. (A wild guess.)

There should be a lot more options, than just sort alphabetically. Also sort on things like: date created, date modified (the content), name of owner/creator of the team, size, nr. of members, nr. of owners.
Also, it should be possible to make size of the tiles smaller.
But most user wishes online are ignored anyway by Microsoft; if not thousands of people call Microsoft.
Also... Teams is too slow anyway. And not a very intuitive (G)UI. And too much white spaces.

Actually, this is something which is essential. Without it, Teams is a major step back in time.
