Hey guys, thanks for the feedback – we hear you loud and clear. After talking this over with the Engineering team, I confirmed this will remain on the backlog and we are actively considering how to accelerate.

This is a high-priority need for my organization. Without it, we affect workflows that are critical to the accomplishment of tasks, and the subsequent fulfillment of customer requirements on a timely fashion. This issue ranks fourth in number of votes, and I believe it is counter-productive to have it on the backlog. Moreover, it is contradictory to Microsoft's stated renewed purpose to align more with Linux and the open-source community. You can't say one thing and immediately do the opposite. You just don't need acceleration at this point, but some forward motion would be appreciated. I should not be looking at Rambox, unofficial projects, and hardware hacks in order to achieve a functionality that Slack appears to fulfill with ease. Please help us soon...

I’m so happy to share an update with you! The feature team has let me know that they are working hard at this and are aiming for a spring time release.
Please comment below if you might be interested in testing or TAP, and include the industry, company size, and location of your org. We would likely want to hit a very wide range of demographics.
Thanks,

I'm willing to volunteer to be a beta tester. My company would appreciate this feature very much. The current web link solution is very limited. Thanks.

Hi everyone, thank you for your patience since the last update.
We want to extend a huge thanks to all of you who have engaged with us on this topic of compact chat. Your input has been invaluable and helped inform our design and decision-making.
As we look to 2019, we will be pursuing plans to continue to make the product more and more space efficient. We see this as a guiding design principle, as well as a backlog of requests from UserVoice that we catalogue, discuss, debate, brainstorm and problem solve.
This principle is also why we will not be making a sharp design turn towards a permanently heavy dense design. Our user base is a wide range of people — such as high school students, the visually impaired, open source developers, and your every day knowledge worker. Because of our broad reach, we must maintain a standard of…

Hi Everyone – thank you for your patience. As was commented by someone below, Suphatra is no longer at Microsoft, but rest assured we are working on this feature.

So, now that Suphatra has moved on from MS to AWS, who will be updating us on this matter? The last response to the forum dates back to October 18, 2018. Does MS love Linux? Does the user have a voice? Does it matter? My Fedora system runs a fully reliable Skype client that I can only connect to my MS account. Why is it so difficult to create a similar client for Office365 users? Can we get an update, or is this forum dead for a Linux audience? Is MS's expressed love for Linux a gimmick? Tic, toc...
