We acknowledge the customer demand for Private Channels and have been hard at work on it. Private Channels is currently in preview with a select group of customers. We expect to release the feature to the public later this Fall, and will update here when we are starting to roll out to all customers. We appreciate all the feedback you have provided to us on this forum and thank you for your patience.

They just rolled out an update yesterday that broke Teams chat for everyone in our organization (about 300 people). Private Channels support? No. Now we got "like" and "love" icons to react to the messages. I couldn't find anyone asking for this feature here on UserVoice. In my workplace, no one needed it. In fact, what we needed was a reaction to acknowledge that we've read that message (for which we simply used the like button). I can only assume that this UserVoice has no weight on what is being promoted from their backlog. It's virtually impossible that such a simple feature like this one is so hard to develop and ship - hey, developer here! - I know how these things are. It's probably something to do with the horrors of SharePoint (WHY would anyone build something based on SharePoint on this day and age is beyond me) or some dumb limitation of Electron (argh, I will refrain myself of saying anything about building this kind of applications in JavaScript). Maybe Suphatra just jumped from a sinking ship...

I don't really like Clippy, but, at the same time, I don't understand this decision by MS. What is really going on?

This feature request is now actively being worked upon. As we move through the development process, I will post an new updates to this topic.

Please keep the votes and feedback coming in. Your feedback is shared with the feature team every month.

You know, the comment from Warren saying they are "actively" working on it from about a year ago makes me wonder how difficult such a feature is to develop on Electron...

I second this, but there's no chance that they'll ditch electron in favor of C(#/++). They can afford cheaper developers (Type/JavaScript developers) sticking with electron. They can also, probably, develop faster. But the client is doomed to become slower and slower based on this technology. Maybe someday someone will create a TypeScript->Blazor compiler and fix electron for good.

Performance has been and continues to be a big focus area for Teams. One main area we have made improvements in is responsiveness for the most frequent user actions of switching between Chat, Channel, and Activity. We are also focused on reducing resource consumption and application load time. More improvements are on the way.
