As we announced at Microsoft Ignite 2019 this morning, we are excited to confirm that Multi-window capabilities are coming to Microsoft Teams, and will start rolling out to the public ring early next year!

    Thanks,
    Alex & the Teams team

The question becomes "what" is M$ working on? The original post states a needed, but narrowly limited requirement for the ability to multi-task Chat in TEAMS. As you read through the comments below the breadth of the true requirement starts to become the root issue within TEAMS. Simply popping out Chats and only the Chat capability without voip, files, etc. that are available within the "main" chat window is not what the general conversation below is asking for.

There are many places that TEAMS does not allow multi-tasking. I cannot voip on one session and be in a screen share on another. I cannot be in a screen share and chat on another without minimizing the screen share. Minimizing one window in preference to another (which is what most of the comments are about) is not productive use of time in any Enterprise. Loss of productivity, costs money, cost of money is loss of profit. Loss of profit for any Enterprise is not good for M$ as eventually the Enterprise will realize the loss of Profit.

The rule for the net result of this UserVoice request is do not interfere one task just because I have to do another task in TEAMS. And Screen real-estate utilization is important. TEAMS should be uncompromisingly screen efficient in allowing non-interfering multi-tasking to take place. The current space hogging UI needs to be re-evaluated or at the very least have user preferences that allow a screen efficient UI.

After further investigation, the issue is more complex. See New Issue Posted (I couldn't delete this one due to multiple votes).

This should be across all Notifications - Flash should be one of the drop down choices.

If more granularity is necessary (being able to get banners/emails from specified sources (people, Teams, Channels), then let there be an Exception list that spans all notifications. This would cover a great number of the multitude of Notification ideas contained within this site.

In the Chat Window itself, there should be a "Hide" button.
Scenario: You are having a private (or group) chat. The Chat is "over" and there is no reason to keep it in your "Recents" since the topic was transient/time sensitive only. You should be able to "Hide" (Close) the chat right from the Chat window. Do not make the user click multiple times to get back to "Recents", then find the Chat, click again to get the option to Hide and then have to click "Hide".

Unnecessary clicks reduce productivity, reduction in productivity is an increase in expense which reduces overall company profits.
