This is currently in Preview – planned to release very soon.

In the following weeks, Teams will be rolling out support on Safari 11+ on macOS. While in preview, there are known issues with Safari’s ITP mode and it is advised that users disable Safari’s Intelligent Tracking Prevention.

please fix this! i can't find any way for me to use safari + mac teams app to open a document URL. i tried pasting the document URL into the team app's search field, but that doesn't result in anything useful at all.

forcing me to install and use another browser just to use a teams link is a terrible experience. if safari is not compatible, then the web page should, at the VERY least, open the teams app and navigate it to the right file.
