I cannot tell you how many times people (including myself) type in the "Start a new conversation..." box when the intention was the reply to an existing thread on a channel. The problem is that if your channel page is scrolled up at all, the "Reply" box is not shown. The "Start a new conversation..." box conveniently looks like a reply box given it's close proximity and similar appearance to the reply box. When you are in the heat of solving a problem and your mind is on the problem, often times a reply is inadvertently typed in the the "Start a new conversation" box (because they appear so similar).
The idea is that "Start a new converstation" should be distinctly different than the "Reply" box. Like make it a button where you have to click on the button first then the message box appears. I would say that starting a new conversation happens WAY less often than Replying to one, so the minor inconvenience of making it an obvious step to "start a new conversation" would greatly outweigh the never-ending inadvertent new conversations we are getting.
Our team would benefit greatly from contiguous conversations. This is especially important when it comes time to try to pull the conversation details out so that we can do things like post mortems, etc.
Our team would very much appreciate a fix to this in an update in the near future.
