This feature request is still being reviewed. The team is working hard to make numerous changes with regards to notifications, but they haven’t forgotten about this item.
I hope to have more details soon.
This is still being worked upon. Though I don’t have any details I do know the devs are really digging into this one, so I hope to have more information in the near future to share with you all.
Hi Everyone – thank you for your patience. As was commented by someone below, Suphatra is no longer at Microsoft, but rest assured we are working on this feature.
we are "fervently" waiting on this feature, for 2 years, please bring it!
This should be a planner feature first, please vote here:

This request definitely makes sense, especially if access rights of sub-teams/channel are not (only) inherited from parent but also customizable. We are a company with over 25'000 employees. Teams was deployed recently and amount of Teams (and channels) have increased exponentially. There is an opportunity for consolidation with this request.
Teams and sub-teams:
We have 3 Teams for the IT Service delivery team, each covering different topics (IT Support, IT Project, IT Project Handover to Operations). Plus about 20 other teams from other IT groups we have access to (which could be consolidated in 5-6 teams with sub teams).
Channels and sub channels:
Taking the IT Project team as an example, we have over 15 channels: Windows Feature Update 1607, 1703, 1709, O365 OneDrive, SPO, Teams, Streams, then some channels for Business projects, or IT other projects, etc. We could have 5-6 channels and then sub-channels. Things would become so much clearer, with much less scrolling down trying to find a specific team.
Just like we have sub-folders, we need sub-Teams and sub-Channels.
I think Microsoft should reconsider.

This request is still on the backlog.
It has been three months since the last update, so checking in here to let you know this is still being actively worked on. I really appreciate your patience as we work on this.
I hope you’re all enjoying the holidays, and have a very Happy New Year!
Hate to be the bearer of bad news. This item has been declined. There will be no work to hide or remove the reply button.
As many people have commented, a big ask is to help improve how people distinguish between giving a reply and starting a new message.
For that the focus will be on this item. “Better visual delineation between `Reply` and `Start a new conversation`”
Fine the way it is for me. Too many people would create new threads instead of replying if reply was too small. Indeed possibility to customize would be the best, but this is so cosmetic... They are many other features/bugs to look at and use "vote" on.
This request is still queued up in the backlog. No new details are available at this time.
