I voted for it, and yet, I do also implore our friends at ms to think carefully and creatively and come up with a design that does not sacrifice security too much.

Another use case: when the account is kind of a non user /service user, like support@contoso.com , then it should be nice to send a quick note like "sorry, not monitoring, please send an email with your request to support@contoso.com or call 555-555-1212"

For my company, it may not be as "critical" as it apparently is for others, but I can say that it would help drive adoption of Teams, and would allow us to deliver some internal services and get some more extensive integration with the MS business suite. We definitely have specific use cases where this would be a viable, maybe preferred UI.

One other note: I really like the Teams client for Android. URL files are extra cumbersome on Android: after downloading the URL files, Android is pretty confused about what to do with them. Although it really is a defect of Android, I would like to see an Optional (can turn it off in settings, or only get this feature with long-press) way to get the client to parse the .URL file contents and then issue an Android Intent for web navigation.

Also useful for having organized documentation that includes links back to technical references from vendors. For example, you want a nicely named "Microsoft ActiveDirectory .NET Library Reference.URL" and upon clicking, the user navigates directly to the official lib ref online on Microsoft's website. Or perhaps, if people are squeamish about that, at least produce a dialog box that shows the URL, does a quick safety check (i.e., does it show up on any known-published badguy/phising lists?) with a big "OK, Yes please, Navigate in Web browser" button.

I'd be interested at least in a diagram that illustrates all the involved connections. I would imagine absolutely everything that Teams client does is through HTTPS connections. Does that count as "end to end"? That doesn't cover, at least, "data at rest" .
I voted up any way, though this may be satisfied with just a well documented and well communicated statement that "hey guys, we already have that! its built-in!" if that is really so.

As an aside, the rich text mode editor does support the style (just create it in another editor like MS Word, copy and then paste back into the chat text input box in Teams client). What is missing is a button and/or hotkey to apply and remove superscript and subscript styling.

I like this idea. Some teams are persistent teams, with a mix of persistent activities/roles along with medium length projects that might warrant a channel for a while, but then once the product is deployed or delivered, you are just in "support" mode. It is still valuable to have research access to the channel's content, but no need to clutter the standard UI anymore. "DBA Team" or "Accounting Team" (perhaps particular audit events) would be good examples of teams fall into this pattern, I think.

We are actively working on developing a solution for this. I will update when this gets to testing/validation.

    partially done  ·  Warren responded

The ability to turn off emojis is still being worked upon.

Also, there is work to create a compact mode which will also help reduce white space… which in turn will impact some of the complaints are far as wasted space from the emojis as well, that have been voiced in the comments.

    Stay tuned for more details.
