This would be ideal to ensure that permissions can be reported on when users change roles.

Hi everyone, I wanted to check in on this ask because it’s died down since GA, and also because the ask is not totally clear to me.
Right now, we provide a way during the team creation process for you to select an existing Office 365 group. Are you asking to be able to do this same thing, but outside of Teams?
Do let me know!
Sincerely,
SuphatraAn error occurred while saving the comment Anikke Bukowski commented
@Suphatra, we need to be able to prevent end users from creating teams, or adding anyone by any means other than an AD Group. Is that currenlty possible?

This is an important feature for handover of teams when users leave or change roles.

Hey everyone — Suphatra’s back! And I’m on the case with this item.
I talked to engineering and I think they don’t understand this request. The requests says “Admin App” — do you mean Admin Center? The O365 portal?
Also, what exactly do you envision for central administration — for example — what can you do now, can’t do, and would like to do with this new feature.
Your feedback will help me get the team to put more resources into this. Thank you!
Suphatra

We're not prepared to release Teams to clients in our environment specifically because it represents a complete departure from our security management model, namely permissions assignment via AD Group membership. It would be great to get a comment from MS about why this product departs from that model. Our primary concerns are that a) users can be invited without an approval process, potentially leading to inappropriately assigned access, and inadvertant or unauthorised access to data; b) when a user changes role, we have no visiblity of their permissions in Teams. Normally, we would simply review and update AD Group memberships to ensure least privilge is applied; c) ongoing management and archiving of data within teams, including handover, backup and restore, and records management. It would be great to know what thoughts MS have given to these issues and others raised in this thread.
Can this be given a higher priority please? Being unable to manage the access rights to Teams with AD Groups is a show stopper, full stop. We would completely lose control of access management if we used user-managed office 365 groups.
