I just manually added all my students to a class. Or rather, I thought I did. There should have been 30 but instead, there were 25. I think it took me just as long to find the missing kids as it took to type their names in the first place!! That makes no sense! If they were alphabetized I could have found them in an instant.

I think this is more about private chats. As teachers we cannot see if two or more students are having a private chat. As a result, the students could be talking about anything...it could be innocent such as homework help or not innocent and include bullying. I know that the chat can be turned off at the Organization level by Admin. But there are times that the teacher needs to have the control of their class. We cannot wait for Admin to do it. I would love it if I could temporarily or permanently turn off chat between students BUT still allow chat between student and teacher. If the teacher needs student to chat with each other they can set up a channel or team room.

Hi all, thanks for the feedback thus far on attendance tracking.

We would love further details from you to better understand what you are looking for in an attendance tracking feature and to address this as fast as possible:

    1. Are you looking to “add a tab”? (original request)
    2. Are you looking for a Gradebook-like experience to track student attendance throughout the class?
    3. Will this be used primarily for online classes and online training, or needed for physical classrooms too?
    4. If you would like the ability to download the student attendance list from within a Teams meeting, could you please upvote this related UserVoice feedback: https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/599053/suggestions/39969796

We look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks to everyone who has voted on this. The team is making progress to ensure we have a safe and secure way to allow teachers to “hard mute” students during a meeting. We will share more details as we have them.

I will be running my first Live class next week and am reviewing all the info I need to know! Reading that the students can unmute themselves even after I mute them is scary. How can I keep control of 30+ students if they can constantly interrupt. Since I cannot see all of them at once it makes it even harder to control. Honestly, if I had not already sent the info out to parents and students saying we were using Teams (almost everyone else in my school is using Google or Zoom) I think I would use something else. This feature needs to be moved to the top of the priority list!!

Thank you for the feedback and waiting for this feature with patience. We have enabled download of a meeting attendance list during a meeting. This is released for general availability. Please note this feature is turned off by default, and needs to be enabled via admin policy.

See documentation for this feature here: https://support.office.com/article/download-attendance-reports-in-teams-ae7cf170-530c-47d3-84c1-3aedac74d310

Note: We are continuing to work on enabling download after a meeting has concluded, as well.

    Thanks.

When I am in a meeting with a class of 30, I do not want to take the time to mark attendance. If I could see after the fact who was in the meeting and then mark the attendance that would be a great time saver.

In 5 days I will begin running Live meetings with my classes. As I was exploring the features I could not find a Lobby option. I will be teaching 8 different classes of Middle Schoolers. The classes run back to back. I cannot have students in the meeting unsupervised! This is a HUGE flaw!!

In May we introduced a new user setting, Only me, that meeting organizers could select when configuring the “Who can bypass lobby?” setting for a Teams meeting. We are now making it possible for you to set Teams meeting defaults in your organization so that only meeting organizers can bypass the lobby.

Your IT admin will now be able to set “Automatically admit people” to Organizer only

    Please note

When set, only the organizer can join directly; all attendees will need to enter via lobby
Once this is your tenant default, it applies to all new meetings created by the user. It does not affect meetings set up prior to this change where Meeting options were updated.
To change the lobby setting for previously created meetings, Meeting organizers can select Meeting options in the meeting invitation for each meeting they schedule.
For additional guidance, see Student safety meeting policies: …

Thanks for all of the feedback on this one. We are reviewing how we can improve notifications around Assignments in Teams. Please keep the feedback coming!

A notification would be great as long as it is just a red dot or something that we see when we log into Teams (as other people suggested). I would NOT want to get emails for each submission!
Also, on the assignment note I wish that when a student tries to turn in an assignment WITHOUT attaching something, they get a reminder! Similar to the way most email programs prompt you when they "see" the word Attached.

I am looking for an update on this? Using Teams with 8 classes during Remote Learning and having to daily go check for any assignments that have been turned in late is tedious. There should be a banner at the top or in notifications or somewhere stating 2 new turn-ins to grade. Something to speed up the process, please.

I love all the updates that Teams is adding regularly. But this suggestion has been here for 2 years! Everyday (multiple times a day) I have to go into each of my 4 classes (technically, I have 8 classes but only 4 are currently using Teams) and see if anyone has turned in any current assignments or any late assignments. Currently, that is 6 assignments per class. That means each day, multiple times a day I am checking 24 assignments. Some classes do have everything turned in, but I check anyway in case someone has done something over or if anything needs my attention. This is a lot of wasted time. It seems like there should be a way to have some type of visual notification that lets teachers know at a glance there are new assignments to grade.

Microsoft! Please take note of this request!

I love this idea...but would only want the notifications in Teams...I would not want it also in email. I have 8 classes and if the notification came in email it would become a nightmare! But it would be awesome at the end of a marking period when I only have a handful of students that still have work to turn in to be notified when they actually submit it. That would save me so much time!
