Thank you for your reports. We released client and service updates this week, that address many MacOS-specific performance issues. We are also aware of recent performance issues with Microsoft Teams meetings, especially on laptops and when using external monitors.
The team is working to resolve these issues. In the meantime, please find troubleshooting information here: https://docs.microsoft.com/microsoftteams/troubleshoot/known-issues/teams-slow-video-meetings-laptops-4k.Raymond W supported this idea ·

This remains to be an issue today; I have a 2020 MBA with 16GB of RAM hijgend Intel video controller and quadcore Intel i7 processor, running Teams with an external monitor just kills the CPU when attached to a external 4K monitor. both for the client as for running teams in browser. This should be resolved asap its killing collaboration and productivity with my team and customers and it's not just a bug, in a global pandemic, it's killing my business, We are a company that provides user adoption on MS365 but can't even work with it ourselves.
The workarounds proposed in the link above provided by Microsoft are just a tragic joke; they don't resolve the issue and on top of it basically means do not use video conferencing, do not collaborate in screensharing and do not use an external monitor (switch off incoming and outgoing video in Teams, quit all other apps; reduce resolution).
