    We made the roadmap!

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=&searchterms=72211

Microsoft Teams: Pairing the channel and the corresponding SharePoint folder name.

When renaming a Teams’ channel, the corresponding SharePoint folder will be renamed and reflect the new name. This will help create consistency across Microsoft 365 endpoints, making it easier on users to find their files from anywhere. This new feature will be available for all Standard and Private channels. For Standard channels – The corresponding folder in SharePoint will be renamed. For Private channels – The corresponding site name and the folder in SharePoint will be renamed. For legacy Teams channels that were renamed prior to this rollout, there will be no change in experience. When a legacy channel is renamed after this release, it will simultaneously rename the corresponding SharePoint folder.

Mark Kashman at Microsoft reported on 4/14 that the fix for this was "beginning to release" but "It is not at complete 100% rollout as of now".

Has anyone been able to see the fix in action in their tenant?

The SharePoint team snuck this text into their monthly roadmap update: "FIXED | Rename a channel in a Teams team and gets updated properly in the corresponding SharePoint folder". See: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-sharepoint-blog/sharepoint-roadmap-pitstop-march-2021/ba-p/2245785.

However, it's still not fixed for me after testing in several tenants (early and standard releases). Can anyone get this to work properly in thier tenant?

Since this info is hidden within "show previous admin responses", just a reminder to also vote and comment on SharePoint UserVoice for this request: https://sharepoint.uservoice.com/forums/329214-sites-and-collaboration/suggestions/20029231-make-rename-in-teams-reflect-name-changes-in-share

While we wait for a solution, is there a possibility of interim measures such as the ability to prevent even Team Owners from renaming channels, or even a warning message of the consequences when you attempt to rename?

It doesn't look like there is any news on this at Ignite, unfortunately.

Still under review by the feature team. Nothing new to report at this time.

Thank you for your continued feedback. The feature team is actively working on this feature as well as doing work to give users the choice to open Word/Excel/PowerPoint files by default in Browser, Office app or inside the Teams app. We will share an update here as soon as one is available.
