This feature request is still being actively worked upon. Good progress is being made, but I cannot share any additional details at this time.
While we work on our Whiteboard you can also try the third party whiteboard app Freehand by Invision that can be found by clicking the Store icon from within Teams and go to the app gallery.
Thank you for all the feedback and suggestions.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news. This item has been declined. There will be no work to hide or remove the reply button.
As many people have commented, a big ask is to help improve how people distinguish between giving a reply and starting a new message.
For that the focus will be on this item. “Better visual delineation between `Reply` and `Start a new conversation`”
We had this in "Classroom".
I have parallel classes at 2 academic levels and am getting very bored doing each thing twice!

We’re excited to expand our release of Turnitin in Teams Assignments! Join the Early Access Program and get an exclusive opportunity to test drive the integration before it’s launched more broadly. (You must have a Turnitin license.)
Get your first glimpse of the new gradebook and individual student progress views coming soon to Teams for Education: https://aka.ms/TeamsEDU2Year
And can these all end up in ONE excel sheet rather than an excel for every assignment!

Since I am one of the few teachers using teams in my school atm it's not a problem as they check my/their team; but as more come on board they need to see them in one place.
I am a bit annoyed that Classroom disappeared after investing my time and energy into using it BUT am prepared to think that Teams might be even better - but it must do atleast what Classroom did.....
Sorry guys, still way behind Google here.
