In addition to being available on Windows & Mac, we have released iOS 2×4 (mobile) and 3×3 (iPad), along with Large Gallery and Together Mode. You will see these options with the latest version from the app store. We are targeting availability for Android clients (mobile and tablet) this quarter as well.

You can read more about Large gallery view, Together mode, as well as other new meetings experiences here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-teams-blog/new-meeting-and-calling-experience-in-microsoft-teams/ba-p/1537581

Great performance and user experience remain a topmost priority for us. Application launch time has seen improvements in the recent build. We will continue making improvements across the product including channel to chat switching and overall resource consumption.

The memory usage of MS Teams is better these days, but I just caught MS Teams eating up almost 50% of a Xeon E5504 CPU. Killing it and restarting it has resolved the issue for now...

My statement about a clean windows install using too much memory was apparently exaggerated. I just did a clean reinstall of a recent version of Win10 LTS and it only seemed to eat up slightly more than 1 Gig of memory when running on an 8 GB machine (before installing any updates). That's still twice as much memory as what a modern Ubuntu XFCE session in GNU/Linux took on a different 4GB computer. Also, if I were to use TWM instead of XFCE, I suspect I could have gotten the XWindows - GNU/Linux memory usage down even more. I apologize and should probably mention that the memory usage I stated for Outlook and Teams were just possible common states. Sometimes the memory usage for those apps is higher or lower than what I stated. Lately, my MS Teams memory usage is *usually* below the 500 MB mark, but not always...

Anyway, if you were to release a GNU/Linux version of teams, maybe I can go back to using a "real man's" window manager like TWM.

Please fix this and consider adding a GNU/Linux client. Also, please consider porting Hyper-V and your super fast Android emulator to GNU/Linux. Traditionally, I consider myself a Microsoft fan and *really* like ASP.NET/Core. Regretfully, my desktop has limited memory and I don't see that situation changing very soon. It doesn't help me when Windows 10 seems to eat up 1.5 Gigs by default on a clean install and then running teams takes up another 500 MB and Outlook takes up another 200 Megs (or so) at a time. Sometimes I run Ubuntu from Hyper-V inside Win10; unfortunately, with my limited RAM situation, my productivity slows when MS apps eat up this much unnecessary RAM.

I do *not* like the fact that GNU/Linux calls it's background drivers daemons. That offends me, but I have to overlook that for now. I can run a XWindows session on Ubuntu in 400 Megs or RAM or so, but MS Windows eats up 1.5 Megs of RAM. I recently switched to the Long Term Servicing branch of MS Windows since our site license seems to allow it. Fortunately, the LTS branch does seem to be cleaner and use less memory than standard Windows 10, but now, I've lost the MS Weather app and (more importantly) MS Edge.

The number of votes on this issue likely represent a very small fraction of the people that are actually annoyed by MS Teams' inefficient use of memory. Even within my current organization, I think there may be people that still *refuse* to use MS Teams. Those people are not going to even bother to come here to "complain". Those people will simply use competing products.

DISCLAIMER: None of my comments represent the opinions of any of my current or former employers. I'm just saying I *like* Microsoft, but you're eating way too much of my RAM.

we have this!  ·  Suphatra responded

Hi there! Here’s how you change your team’s privacy setting:

    1. Click the ellipses next to the team name and choose “Edit Team”.

    2. A pop up box will appear and there will be a drop-down menu labeled “Privacy.”

    3. Then you can select Private or Public for the team’s discoverability setting.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Is there an easy way to do this from SharePoint?

I will sometimes create Team Sites in SharePoint and it will create a private group. I then only know how to change the SharePoint Team site to Public via Outlook. I suppose I could also use MS Teams to change group accessibility but sometimes the groups are created via a development tenant of SharePoint. Unfortunately, when I try to go into MSTeams, it seems to want to point to production so I have a hard time getting back to the group that was created in development without going through Outlook *instead* of teams. Outook will let me access the development tenant but I'm not sure MS Teams will.

working on it  ·  Suphatra responded

Hi everyone, the engineer working on this item has left the company and we’re working on replacing him. I wanted to give you that heads up because the work has paused, which extends our shipping date.

I really appreciate your patience as we work to get this back to actively worked on.

Oh, I see now. There is no way to add a common word to the dictionary. That would be a useful feature.

Spell check has been working fine for a while now. What about grammar check? (i.e. the Green squigglies that Mr. Thompson mentions). Ideally, this would be done without significantly increasing MS Team's memory footprint. In the past, MS Teams used way more memory than it should. I don't want to go back to those "dark" days.

Could this be an organizational setting? I frequently have spelling/grammar errors in my teams posts so I am constantly editing them after I post. When I hover over an already made post, I get a popup strip with frequent emoticons and a "..." button. If I click that "..." button, I get a popup menu that gives me "Save this message, Edit, Delete … Turn off notifications" as options.

I don't know if you can see my attached file (editPost.png), but please look at it if you can. If after trying these steps, you are still having trouble editing posts, you might want to contact your MS Teams admin. Even though Microsoft hosts the MS Teams servers, its possible MS Teams may give subscribing organizations flexibility and leeway to set "policies" that will customize MS Teams behavior.
