Due to a priority shift this request has slipped to the backlog. I hate to bring bad news. I will continue to provide the feature team your feedback and votes.
Hopefully this will move back up in the queue soon.
I'm sure microsoft imagines that all employees are fully engaged, intelligent information workers who are keen to contribute valuable content to the team. Back in the real world, sometimes we want people to see things without being able to edit, delete, share or otherwise mess with information that is there to help them do their job. When I add a member to the team, I want the option to be able add them as a 'read only' member.
As part of our commitment to being customer driven, we’d love your input on top features that will improve your satisfaction with teams and channels navigation, and help you be more productive in Teams. If the general channel cannot be renamed, suggests some underlying design issues.
Due to prioritization of other work-items this has been moved to the backlog. We will update when it is being actively worked on again.
We are working on a better experience in Teams when a user is not connected to the internet. No timeline to share at this point, but we will keep you posted.
This feature request is working its way through the backlog queue. No new details are available yet.
