I have pretty much the same problem and looks like it's just a bug.
I've noticed that if you find a message via search, it's displayed alone. There is no way to see other messages in this discussion that were posted right after the message you were looking for.
However, if you go to this chat and scroll up until you find the message you were looking for, teams will load history to the cache and NOW you will see the context in search result.
In other words the bug is that Teams doesn't attempt to load messages from this discussion from server. It only checks cache entries and this is horrible user experience.
Usually I search for a message to find some details related to some discussion... Not to see my message, get date from it and scroll the chat up until this date.
Hope it will be fixed.
This is still under review, no decision has been made. But I will keep following up with the feature team and providing them your feedback.

I am marking this as partially done to let you know a new reactions bar with Like, Heart, Laugh, Surprised, Sad, and Angry has begun rolling out to all users.
