We are now preparing for the roll out of Tasks in Teams which will integrate additional features integrating To-Do and Planner. This includes additional list views that also extend to tabs in teams. Further announcements about additional integration in our overall Tasks coherence effort will follow.
You can follow the rollout via our Roadmap item: https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/roadmap?searchterms=57213. To see a preview of the experience, please visit https://youtu.be/rTATVGroEsQ.

If you’re not planning on using the class functionality in Teams, O365 IT Admins can remove the Assignments app in the Teams Admin Center under Teams apps > ‘Permission policies’.
You can set a user policy (remove it for a set of users) or a global one that removes the Assignments app for everyone in your tenant.
Before you do this, make sure to double check if any faculty are using Assignments. We’ve seen Assignments be used in all sorts of ways successfully, even without students. You can always add back Assignments by removing the policy.

We second this suggestion. Teams is not a tool that is going to be used for teacher/student interaction at our school and therefore the Assignments tab is useless to us.

On-Call shifts are critical for us, as is the ability to have someone "cover" for the on-call person if they are temporarily unavailable.
