Plenty of user feedback being received that it is poor practice having to do extra clicks every time they navigate between channels. How about adding a minor feature that remembers the last tab a user viewed in a channel, and navigating there when they next use that channel? That would be a huge win in terms of daily unnecessary clicks, Microsoft Server burden and page load waits! Make it a feature that the Admin can enable or disable maybe?

on the backlog  ·  Warren responded

As a general status I’m going to flag this as “on the backlog”.

However, here is the list breakdown for you all. :)

    1) Image embedding.
    -This is supported!

    2) Better Copy & Paste
-I would think is is asking for copy and paste between sections – this is -“on the backlog”

    3) Better Alerts,
-If this is a request for notification when someone changes a section you “own” or “follow” this is “on the backlog”

    4) Why isn’t there an equally capable Modern app.
-Not being considered at this time.

    5) Editing functions are terrible.
-This is “on the backlog” but making good progress… hope to have more details in the near future to share.

    6) Hyperlinks not recognized.
    -This should be fixed already.

    7) The burger icon is so small (to expand the list of Wiki’s), couldnt find with a microscope. Make is screen- size dependant. Larger than…

The SharePoint tab should do more than just libraries. It should enable presentation of any URL-accessible SharePoint content, including Pages, Sites, Lists, Filtered library views and pretty much any url-accessible SharePoint content. We have tried to use the Web Site tab with SharePoint URLs but it won't allow the content to display in a frame.

    NakiKiwiNZ commented  ·

I have been trying to achieve this using the URL to a view, folder etc with a Website app tab, but it won't show it in a frame. When you try to do it via the SharePoint tab app, it only allows you to select a library. Extremely limited!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this feature request has been declined.

    NakiKiwiNZ commented  ·

Ditto to Rick Bojahra's comment "The inability to remove the Files tab is the biggest reason we have not rolled out Teams at our Site."

This appears to be a very quick-win and simple item to action, and everyone says the same thing - wondering why it is taking so long to action?

    NakiKiwiNZ commented  ·

Please action this! Inability to remove the Files tab makes Teams so inflexible!

    NakiKiwiNZ commented  ·

Just looking through the comments - this was asked for a very long time ago and seems from the comments to be a no-brainer. I am wondering why it still hasn't been actioned?

    NakiKiwiNZ commented  ·

Definitely need to be able to hide the Files tab. We are using document libraries in tabs within channels, and the Files tab really confuses our users!

    NakiKiwiNZ supported this idea  ·
    NakiKiwiNZ commented  ·

Yes absolutely. Also need to be able to use a URL from the SharePoint site that is more flexible than just picking a whole library.

Thanks for following our suggestion to vote this up on SharePoint. It worked! SharePoint has confirmed that they have already started working on this and I’ll be getting an ETA from them after the holidays. -Suphatra

    NakiKiwiNZ commented  ·

PPS - Here's the workaround I am trialing. Once I create a channel, I go to the channel's folder in SharePoint and delete it. Then I create a Library with the same name, and in the Channel I create a SharePoint tab for the library. Works great, and enables you to set different metadata for different channels in the SharePoint side of things. If only they would enable us the option of hiding or removing the 'Files' tab in Team Channels!!

    NakiKiwiNZ commented  ·

PS - Good practice in SharePoint is to minimize URL length (too long breaks things). So when you create a Team or Channel (or Site or Library) it's a good idea to give it a short but recognizable name when you first create it (no %20 spaces etc). That sets the enduring URL address and keeps it short), then afterwards, change the name to the longer name you want (which gives a nicer display name without changing the short URL). You pretty much have to apply SharePoint good practice to Teams methinks. It's still a major problem that users can change the channel's SharePoint folder name which breaks the Channel's Files tab.

    NakiKiwiNZ commented  ·

So the channel works in the same way as SharePoint Sites and Libraries do. The first name you give it is what the URL will be forever. That protects the integrity of any links made to folders and files (changing the url would break them). However the real bug (and it is a REAL BUG), is that users can change the folder names of channels in SharePoint which breaks the Channel's Files tab. Folders created by channels should be protected from name changes by users.

    NakiKiwiNZ commented  ·

Worse still, if someone renames the folder, it breaks the Files tab in the Channel.

... And as if that's not enough, even if you disable Team Member's ability to add/edit channels, they still have permissions from the SharePoint end to change the Channel's SharePoint folder name and thus break the Channel's Files tab.

    NakiKiwiNZ commented  ·

When you rename the folder from the SharePoint view, it breaks the Files tab completely for that Channel as well.

Hi everyone — we have implemented this on the web version.

We will not be implementing it in the desktop app or mobile app due to other high priority engineering items.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Upvoted. Teams online app needs to be consistent with the others, and it confuses users when they can't find their app launcher and nav bar in Teams.

If you are trying to save real estate on any screen, maybe make the nav bar hideable?

The way it is with such a long name 'Shared%20Documents' also creates an over-length URL issue unnecessarily.

needs your feedback  ·  Suphatra responded

Hey everyone — Suphatra’s back! And I’m on the case with this item.

I talked to engineering and I think they don’t understand this request. The requests says “Admin App” — do you mean Admin Center? The O365 portal?

Also, what exactly do you envision for central administration — for example — what can you do now, can’t do, and would like to do with this new feature.

Your feedback will help me get the team to put more resources into this. Thank you!

    Suphatra

    NakiKiwiNZ commented  ·

Central Administration should also include the ability to administer and maintain Team permissions using Security Groups, not just individual users! At the moment you can select a security group while initially adding members, but it just adds the individuals instead of the security group itself, which is going to create a major headache in the medium to long term trying to maintain the integrity of security permissions.

You can link to a library, not just a site. But nothing more useful than that. We should be able to link to SharePoint Views and Folders at the very least - possibly to any SharePoint URL. You can try it through the Website app tab tool, but it won't display SharePoint content from a URL in a frame.

This feature request has been declined by the feature team. However, the feature team is working on design changes to better help differentiate Teams files.
Which hopefully will help alleviate the confusion users are experiencing when when trying to identify SharePoint files versus Teams files.

    -Warren

    NakiKiwiNZ commented  ·

When you create a new Team it creates a new SharePoint Team Site with the same name. That's sensible.

But when you create a Channel (the next level down from a Team), it skips past the Library level and creates a Folder in a generic 'Documents' library. That's not sensible.

So Teams essentially limits you to a single 'Documents' library per Team, and everything else (Channels downwards) creates layers of folders, which causes issues later.

Can we have the option to create Libraries rather than Folders two steps down when a Channel is created please?
