We currently use this in mattermost for integration with our ticketing system. For example, a mention of #ticket_number pulls metadata from our request tracker.
Its also a requirement if you want to bridge channels with external services. For example, we use matterbridge to connect a private channel to a partner's slack instance in order to have cross-site communication w/o creating accounts in both systems for every single person.
I’m sure you’ve heard the news by now: Teams and Skype for Business will converge into one. Here’s the official blog post: https://blogs.office.com/en-us/2017/09/25/a-new-vision-for-intelligent-communications-in-office-365/
And other articles for reference:
Yes, please implement this. We would love to tie these features into our existing conferencing system. The collaboration in Teams is way above what S4B does, but for A/V, room systems and desktop phones its S4B.
The fact that this wasn't implemented from day one makes me wonder how MS operates internally, do all employees run two clients? Are operations that silo'd that this is not an issue?
Start off your weekend with good news: we’re working on this!
Thanks to everyone who brought this feature to the forefront and shared feedback on their use case scenario. Very helpful!
I wrote some more product updates on today’s Teams blog in my weekly column, “Weekend Reading” —
Consistency with S4B and all other os365 presence aware apps would be ideal. IE, if I'm in a meeting w/ A/V in Teams it should update my presence in S4B to show busy, same as if I'm in an S4B meeting.
