this needs to happen. i have many users confused about messages that appear in the activity feed and then can't be clicked on/navigated to due to the message having been deleted.

Honestly, just getting the information/conversations into Teams in a format that can be accessed and searched is the most important to me. It doesn't need to be a true Teams chat/conversation, rather just the text with date and time information. Right now we are exporting out of Skype using a 3rd party tool and into excel. From there we importing into the FIles tab in Teams. This is not an ideal situation.

I will also add that linking to a specific folder within an existing SP document library should be an option as well.

Thank you for addressing this Suphatra. Here are answers to your questions:

Scenario A: This is the preferred method. We store all company files on existing SharePoint sites, and being able to make a Team connected to those existing site (without making an entirely new SharePoint site) would be better than the existing method.

Scenario B: This is actually fine (and appreciated that you guys did this), but it could be better. What you could allow for is: 1) during the Team creation process, ask if we have an existing SharePoint site and allow for us to create the tab/link the site during setup. This way you are prompted to make this connection rather than relying on individuals to do it later, and 2) allow the Files tab to be removed, hidden, or make the existing SharePoint tab that we are associating with the Team into that tab (just a name change not actually transferring files).

    Follow-up Scenario A items:

Q1: If we made this possible, then would you expect the SP library to auto-generate channels in accordance to the folder structure? I would expect this, but it would be interesting to be able to point Channels to different folders within the structure.

What would you expect to happen if you selected an existing SP site in the team creation process? I would expect that the Files tab is hidden or replaced by the existing SP site files.

Q2: How important is this to you, comparative to other asks in UserVoice? I would classify this as a 9 or 10. The other things that I consider vital are having the Group Calendar as a tab, support for the hyperlinking of files instead of Teams creating duplicate files between Channels (particularly using the files:\\ prefix), and private channels. External access is also up there, but not as vital.

Q3: Would using the Create Channels API fix this for you, so you could make your own solution? No. This needs to be an out-of-the box solution. MS is responsible for both Teams and SharePoint. To me, providing support for existing SharePoint sites (through A or B (with my suggestions)) should be the job of the Teams crew to bring about.

@suphatra what exactly did you guys change? this functunality is what we had before when you said this suggestion was completed. I will reiterate what others have said, THIS IS NOT WHAT THIS SUGGESTION IS ABOUT.

    1) When making a Team, you should be able to choose an existing SharePoint site and there by:
    a) the existing SharePoint document library would become the Files tab in Teams,
    2) The existing onenote library would become a tab in Teams,
    3) The existing calendar (ehem) would become a calendar in Teams,
    etc.

In short, a lot of us have existing sharepoint sites that we use on a daily basis. Why would we want 2 sharepoint sites with 2 document libraries for the same project. For example, I have project x with an existing sharepoint site with thousands of existing documents in a library. I want to make a team. Now I have project x sharepoint site and project x team sharepoint site with one doc. library containing those thousands of files and the team doc library with zero. This makes no sense.

Yes, you can add the existing doc library as a tab within the Team. What you have done (which I'm still unsure of what has changed) is only that. You have not done the above, you have not allowed the creation of a sharepoint tab based upon a specific folder within an existing sharepoint document library, and you have not allowed the sending of hyperlinked docs within Teams. Isn't the whole point of SharePoint/OneDrive/O365 is to prevent file duplication and the emailing of files to people? The solution within Teams promotes duplicative files and sharepoint sites for essentially no reason.

Right now you can easily connect to SharePoint document libraries in every location but the top-level SharePoint site. Teams states that these files can't be displayed when the libraries are added as tabs.

if you have an existing post that you want to show in a different channel, you can edit the message and cross-post. This will add the top-level post to the different channel, but will not include the full set of replies. We will keep this request in mind as we evolve the cross-posting feature in the future and update if the status changes.

Details on cross posting can be found here: https://support.office.com/article/cross-post-a-channel-conversation-in-teams-9c1252a3-67ef-498e-a7c1-dd7147b3d295.

Adding email as a left tab panel remains under review. We are working on adding several Teams and email integrations:

    - Share to Teams: Share a copy of an email and any attachments into a chat or channel directly from Outlook

    - Share to Outlook: Share a copy of a channel or chat conversation via email directly from Teams

    - Actionable Teams Activity Emails: Teams missed activity emails display the latest replies and allow you to reply directly from Outlook

This feature is absolutely needed. If we store files in the General Channel (or any other channel), but want to chat about them in another channel you can't just link it in a conversation. Right now you either have to: a) duplicate the file using either the upload or attachment command, or b) choose to make a tab for that document. Neither of those solutions are user friendly. You should be able to click the attach icon, navigate to the file under whatever channel it is already stored in, and then have it appear in the conversation as a link instead of the actual file (thereby preventing having multiple versions of the same file and saving on storage space).
