Great news! We just started working on this for the AUDIO portion. We are still trying to determine feasibility for the video portion of your request.

This feature is still being reviewed by the feature team. No decision has been made yet. I’ll keep you posted.

and even with the mobile app, it could be a swipe thing to move between the chat and teams view, which would be more intuitive and less taping/loading

    Michael commented  ·

Maybe there can be something like having Chats next to teams.

First, move the navigation bar to the top with only Activity, Meeting, Files and the ... displayed

Second, make the Teams view the default view -> once you click on Activity, it overlays the Teams view; you can close it, by hit an x in the upper right or by clicking Activity again (same with Meeting and any other Button)

Third, use the available space on the left side to place the chats there (you could win some space, by placing the Teams pics somewhere else. Or the chats sidebar could be a hover-over thing. You only see the Pics, or initials of the people, but with mouse-over it overlays the teams view and you get the full view for chats.

As I understand it, teams is primarily for collaboration, so with this idea, the Team view stays in focus, but as others mention here, chats is as important as the teams view. So you always have both views at your finger tips, without even clicking anything

There might be more ideas around that, but I don't think, merging Teams and Chat in one would help. As for us, it would be confusing as you need to scroll a lot

We acknowledge the customer demand for Private Channels and have been hard at work on it. Private Channels is currently in preview with a select group of customers. We expect to release the feature to the public later this Fall, and will update here when we are starting to roll out to all customers. We appreciate all the feedback you have provided to us on this forum and thank you for your patience.

"Channels *should* be limited by the parent team IMHO."
"The private channel would be composed of people IN the parent team"

We have our Creative Team. They work on projects. If there is i.e. a conference, they need to invite external people (in the org, or not) only to the specific conference-channel (private or non-private either way).
That might be a different feature request, but I hope, the private channels won't hinder that possibility. We need external people in specific channels, without open the whole team to them.
Can we expect to invite external people only to specific channels?

    How about the following Idea:

Instead of having private Channels, you add a level above the teams -> So the structure would look like the following:

    - Teams
    - Groups (which is now a Team) (to call it groups, makes it consistence to the name Office 365 Groups)
    - Channels

This way you add your whole Team/Department to a "Team". There, they have the choice to join public "Groups" or can ask to be part of private "Groups".
So you have all people organised and all the office groups sorted by department.
Furthermore it'd be awesome to have hide groups, that are only accessible through invitation.

Also, a group can be part of different teams. So if a group is more like a Project you can add it to the "marketing/creative" "Team" and the "Events" "Team" i.e.

    What do you think?

    Michael commented  ·

to explain why private AND hidden channels (rooms):

with private rooms, you are able to knock on the door and ask if you can join, because you see potential value in taking part with this channel

hidden channels are not seen until you are invited

    Michael commented  ·

    as mentioned in another post:

Problem: Everyone who is part of the group/team is potentially part of of every channel of that team. Because channels are open and the only thing you can do is favourite them.

    Right now:
    Office 365 = house
    Team/Group = room
channel = group of people inside of that room

-> once you are inside of the room, you can go to every group and talk with them, even listen what they talk about, without being invited to participate

    How it should be:
    Office 365 = City
    Team/Group = House
    channel = room
post = group inside of that room (with the reply button you can participate with every conversation that is happening inside of that room)

-> once someone invited me into the house, I can walk around, see open doors/rooms, closed doors/rooms and there are even hidden rooms in the basement, I don't even know whether they exist

    so...

please have open channels, private channels and hidden channels and allow us to only invite people to specific channels, without them seeing the whole house (group/team)

    Michael supported this idea  ·
    Michael commented  ·

same here: I really thought private channels will roll out somewhen soon, as I implemented Teams.

It's not only private channels that is really necessary, but also the ability to invite guests or even users from the company to only one channel (either private or public), instead of having them seeing the whole team/office 365 group

Hate to be the bearer of bad news. This item has been declined. There will be no work to hide or remove the reply button.

As many people have commented, a big ask is to help improve how people distinguish between giving a reply and starting a new message.
For that the focus will be on this item. “Better visual delineation between `Reply` and `Start a new conversation`”

The feature team has declined this request due to the fact that a similar experience already exists.

You can achieve very similar functionality with the existing integration. The OneNote integration has been redesigned so that you can add an entire notebook as a channel tab, but always show a particular section (be it new or existing). Within each tab, you can also create other sections as well as pages within any section to better organize your notes.

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions.

    Michael commented  ·

saying this: I totally 'd like to see a section group per channel!!!!!!

    Michael commented  ·

    @Jamie Thomson

It's only clutter, if you use the Notebook only via/for/through Teams.
If you manually put sections (groups) to the notebook it makes it look overflowed quite quickly.

    We organise all out notebook:
On the first level, there is no single section, you only see section groups. Inside of these section groups you start to put the sections. This keeps it organised and clear

A lot of the comments read: ... part of the channel...

There is no: I am part of that or this channel (and that is the problem)

Everyone who is part of the group/team is potentially part of of every channel of that team. Because channels are open and the only thing you can do is favourite them.

    Right now:

    so...

please have open channels, private channels and hidden channels and allow us to only invite people to specific channels, without them seeing the whole house (group/team)

then it makes sense to talk about: seeing people are part of that channel

(probably a lot of us come from using Slack, so when they talk about channels, you need so understand how channels work in slack)

    Michael commented  ·

The question is, how channels will be handled in the future.

If channels are teams (channel) inside of teams (Office Group), it'd be great to have an indicator who is part of this channel an right now active.
(i.e. channels can be private for themselves so only invited team members can access and not everyone who is part of the office 365 group; also I can invite guests to only one channel, without letting them see the whole group with all the other channels -> that's the behaviour, i'd prefer)

If, on the other hand, channels stay just open rooms for anyone able to access, the only need for a member indicator would be: Show me who is/was active inside of this channel (i.e. who posted something, or replied, who got mentioned, who, right now, is viewing the channel ...)
