"The concept you mention above is what we call a Channel Guest. We are discussing that internally because we certainly understand the scenario so stay tuned on UserVoice. "

Would be nice to be able to allow guests access to only specific channels. This would reduce the number of teams needed so you could have something like:
Team Guests
- Company 1 channel
- Company 2 channel
- Company 2 & 3 channelInstead of something like this:
Team Company 1
- General channel
Team Company 2
- General channel
Team Company 1 & 2
- General channel
(and so on with an ever increasing number of teams when you need different combinations of guests)As implementation of this could take a while a workaround could be to use a common team for quests but complete the support for private channels so that guests can be separated within a team (although sometimes you would not want them so see each other at all)
https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/16911079-support-for-private-channels@Sonia if you prefer having this feature restricted to team level than that could be a configuration option. It's still a feature that can be useful for many users. The indicator for guests being in teams could also be added to specific channels.

This is currently in internal testing rings at Microsoft, and the feature team is targeting a release to the public in early Q2.
Stay tuned!
