In meetings with multiple people having the same initials images are quite beneficial to identify who is actually on the call. For me it's my boss who has the same initials. Once our organization allowed profile pictures I was one of the first to upload one. Still in the initial view when no-one is sharing the profile pictures aren't shown and hence in many places at the beginning of a call my problem of being mistaken for my boss continues
I agree users should have a choice. But when people come onto a call it is good to have a picture greeting you. Integrated cameras aren't allowed for our current laptops because of issues on customer visits.
