Thank you for your patience. We are thrilled to that replying to a chat message in the desktop client is now available as part of our Public Preview. It is expected to roll out to the public ring over the next several weeks.

Please see feature details here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-teams-public-preview/now-in-public-preview-quoted-reply-for-desktop-web-coming-soon/td-p/2761594

For details on switching to the Microsoft Teams Public Preview version, please see : https://aka.ms/TeamsPublicPreview.

We look forward to your preview feedback!

I dont know about you, but most of my work is done on a desktop, not a mobile device. Please update the desktop version of the app first! Reply is available in channel conversation, but not in individual chats. So much more to be desired.

I think the community would be better served if messaging was a stand alone app that could be accessed in Teams (embedded) or like a standard instant messenger.

Yes. Teams all-in-one design is a UI disaster.

Messaging should be its own Window application with a list of contacts, a searchable directory, and a pop-out window for each conversation, if desired. This is the pattern that has been successfully for 20 years since ICQ, AIM, etc. Microsoft changed Skype to a single Window design and the app has never been as useable. Teams simply takes on too much and the community would be better served with a light weight messaging app separate from teams.

This is very critical. Nobody can remember where all the files are located and the location field doesn't include which team a file is in.
