Excel Truncating Text Spanning Across Multiple Cells
The Excel viewer in MS Teams appears to have a bug in that text spanning across cells appears to get truncated every 31st column (columns AE, BI, CM, …) even though there is no other text or formulas or other reason it would normally be truncated.
This was noticed when setting up a schedule with multiple tasks. Columns were set to width 2. Each column represented a day and task details were typed in to the cell of the first day of the task. It was noticed that text was being cutoff on certain columns. Further examination showed it was a regular interval of 31 columns where this would occur.
This was checked on multiple machines and same occurred across different computers. Subsequently a new spreadsheet was setup to test clean with no formulas or special formatting used. This showed the same issue of text being truncated.
It was also noticed that Freeze Panes shifts the truncation issue by the number of columns frozen (ie if I freeze columns A and B the truncation issue shifts over 2 columns to columns AG, BK, BO, …)
Note that column width does not make a difference on this as tried varying the width to see if the column of issue shifted. It did not.
In order to test this issue I entered a long string of text in to cell A1 (ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ) I then copied this down rows shifting over one column each row (B2, C3, …) On rows where the text crosses columns AE, BI, CM, … it gets truncated at these columns.
This issue is not present in the desktop version of Excel. The same file opened in the desktop version is okay but in Teams not.
Not just within Teams. The truncation also occurs if viewing the file in the Excel web app version - Office 365.
I use Excel outside of Teams to view files stored in Teams to not make a mistake of truncated, missing or garbled data. Excel outside of Teams shows the correct data.
