Team desktop client picking low quality video resolution from set offered by web cam.
Teams client is picking 640x360 resolution rather than optimal resolution. This results in sub-par picture quality.
This happens with virtual camera devices like XplitVcam, XsplitBroadcaster and OBS as well as physical cameras like Logitech brio.
I have proven this by removing the 640x360 offered resolution from xsplit XML files (it offers multiple resolutions via dshow and teams picks which it wants to use) - quality improved.
To be clear this is a bug in how team client selects from the dshow resolutions offered.
This issue does not affect web client.
confirmed in client version 1.3.00.13565
Resolution should be a selectable option in the UI.
My Logitech BRIO would like 4K video.
No resolution yet?
Slack, this seems to be best work around. Project a scene then screen share it.
Michael Slack commented
A workaround for this is to have two screens available to you. One you are working on and has your presentation or whatever, and the other has OBS. You set up your OBS scene with your video overlay, etc, then right click and full screen projector preview to your one non working screen. Then when in TEAMS, you share your OBS projection preview and then the video overlay is HD and looks great. So instead of trying to use the OBS virtual cam with a scene, you can achieve the same thing, but by sharing your screen vs showing your video feed (selected to OBS).
Hope this helps in the interim until they resolve the video quality.
Please fix this, it will improve how I teach.

It is a great trouble for teaching! please change this!
How is it my $200 4k logitech brio webcam looks like **** in teams compared to folks inbuilt 720p cameras. This is ridiculous.
I would like to use OBS with Teams to improve my lectures. This bug makes it impossible. Combined with the lack of break-out groups it means Teams is lacking in several areas for lecturers.

This issue makes useless to combine OBS + Teams in my lessons. Now I have to use teams without OBS improvement till the issue is solved
This issue has totally disrupted the effectiveness of my remote teaching and is causing significant distress to students as a result. Please fix this so that I can again use OBS as a good quality virtual cam in Teams!

Yes this is "VERY" annoying. This has been doing this from day one. Model it always happens with is Logitch BRIO (which is a 4k camera)
Yes, please fix this! It is affecting my ability to use Teams a teaching platform.
