Available/Away status not functioning correctly. Even though I'm active on PC (available) it toggle my status to away. This is wrong!
When User is active on the PC/device they are available (unless in a meeting or manually set to busy). Away status should only change when user is no longer available, i.e. not active on the PC (for configurable time - perhaps 30 minutes) - or based on Monitor/screen/display timeout or system sleep.

I am sometimes typing a chat in teams when it changes to away. And yes the app on my phone is not running at the time.

My frustration is "same but opposite:" say I need to be on my work laptop, but have to attend to some family stuff. I manually set my Teams status=away.
1 or 2 days later (and after many comings & goings from the laptop,) I'm surprised to notice my teams status is still "away."
The iOS build has a "clear after" setting; why not also the desktop app? -

agree with original poster. My status is showing me away when I am actively using programs on my computer. This gives the appearance to team members and leadership that I am not working/available when I am! When trying to manually reset to available, sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.

I don't say this lightly and usually have great respect for what MS and its employees have accomplished, but I think some screwball at MS actually thinks this is a feature and is somehow useful. There is absolutely zero value in having presence status if it is showing me away when I am not away. Absolutely no other chat client I ever used operates this way. Even if this was the only chat client ever invented, logic says that you don't show me away when I am not away.

I am working away on my machine across applications(not using RDP or anything like that), look down and Teams has set my status to away repeatedly - this is completely unprofessional. As soon as I pop up the teams application it reverts the status.

Also I found an old thread on this exact issue that they closed down despite it clearly still being an active issue...

don't switch to "away", just because I'm using a different application (i'm still at work!)
The availability status should indicate whether or not someone is available, which means they are available to chat.So it does not make sense to switch my status to away, just because I'm answering email or do something else on my computer.

Same for me. I'll be actively using other programs, go down to taskbar for something and notice Teams has me as "away". It'll switch back if I use Teams itself.
I have noticed this particularly over the last few days and it's driving me nuts as I spend most of my time not on teams, but I need people to know I'm available.
Also we're all working from home now so if my company are tracking my activity using teams then I'm going to look pretty **** ****.
