"Wait in lobby" for student (participants) in scheduled meetings
In order to use scheduled meetings for teaching is necessary that the meeting organizer can force student to "wait in lobby" if they try to enter the meeting before the teacher.
In my case, students are part of the organization, they are not guests. For this reason, this functionality for my school is not possible.
The possibility to force participants (even if part of the organization) in the lobby is necessary, because otherwise students could use the scheduled meeting to enter by their own and talk privately without the teacher.
We are happy to announce the “Only me” option for “Who can bypass lobby?” setting is now available for Teams meetings. Details on the new lobby option can be found here, https://support.microsoft.com/office/change-participant-settings-for-a-teams-meeting-53261366-dbd5-45f9-aae9-a70e6354f88e.
When will Admins be able to apply this as a Global policy?
Yes! Thanks for adding this important function. Just tested it with my class and it worked well.
What would take it to the next level would be to have a teacher-only switch inside the meeting that auto-admits students for a specified time period (say 2, 3 or 5 minutes).
Yay! Thank you for adding this feature. This will be very helpful for teachers.

This is great news, moving forward how as an Admin can I set this as a default for the whole school?
Does the IT Admin has any option to enable this option for the whole organisation?

Yes, thankyou! This is working really well.
Is there any setting in Microsoft teams to make student wait in looby.
Student will enter in meeting only after teacher join the meeting
When will this option roll out
We are very disappointed with this service
Students start meeting with out a teacher
Scheduled meeting starts before time and no lobby
Can it be rolled out fast
This is a really important feature that needs to be added to make this appropriate for use in a schools setting. This will create another problem though which is probably even worse than the problem it solves.
If a student forwards on a meeting request to someone outside your organisation, they can join as a guest and wait in the lobby alongside the other students and the teacher will have to try and spot that one stranger among the 30 other people waiting in the lobby. I think this will be really hard to spot.
I think there needs to be more granular controls where guests can join meetings. Realistically, we need to allow guests to access meetings or we will never be able to have an online meeting with a parent (who won't have a Teams or Skype for Business account).

I hope that you are making this option to be based on the assigned license type, i.e. student license. If teachers and students are in the same organization, your options do not do much to restrict students from starting the meeting. Student License users should stay in the lobby while faculty license users should be able to start the meeting, print meeting list and end the meeting.
Hey team, it's been two months since the last update. Can we please have a progress update on this very important function?

We are a K-12 school that just rolled out teams. This really needs to be implemented quickly. It is very difficult convincing Google people that Teams is better and more secure when seemingly small things such as a lobby and only teachers can start and end meetings is not available. Fix it!!
Please roll this out on all versions (desktop and app) soon. We have had to resort to scheduling the meeting just before the lesson starts, wait for everyone to leave at the end before ending the meeting and cancelling it so students can't go back in and talk without the teacher present. Not ideal at all
when you make this can you ensure that students are always placed in the lobby before the lesson starts and the teacher has to admit them one by one. If they are automatically added if the teacher is present then if you need to remove a student from the lesson due to inappropriate behaviour then they will continue to be able to rejoin the lesson
How Soon can we expect the release of this?
Is Microsoft still developing this as it is not working for us?

UPDATE EVERYONE: I used my student testing account in my organisation in Teams, and figured that this is now live! There is no option visible to enable or disable it though - it is just there. Students/nobody can join the meeting without presence of the meeting organiser.
