Pre-Assign Students to Breakout Rooms
Could there be a feature where teachers can pre-assign (before the class starts) students to groups based on the invited attendees list. Currently, you have to wait for students to enter the main meeting and then assign each one to a room or randomly assign, which can be challenging when implementing roles or differentiation activities.
Thank you for your feedback! The team is currently working on introducing the capability for the meeting organizer to perform breakout room configurations and participant assignments prior to the start of the meeting. We will share an update as soon as one is available.
To track this feature on our Public Roadmap, please visit https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/roadmap?searchterms=81390.

This is a very important feature that is required for business meetings too - not just student/teacher classroom setting. It is too difficult to manage breakout rooms when you have to wait until the actual meeting starts - it is chaotic!
Pre-assigning participants would be a massive time saver!
Maintaining continuity of breakout rooms / attendees of the rooms for reuse, when meetings are recurring (currently my workaround is to reuse a previous meeting by editing the time, in order to maintain the same set-up) but since breakout rooms do not retain attendees if they are not currently in the call, I find that I have to reassign all attendees every time -- Just a massive time sink, and often has trouble with participants not being added correctly or dropping out and then rejoining only to find that they are allocated, but unable to see the rooms.
Having templates and channels that can be reused and applied for user-defined standard calls would be incredible

Like in Zoom! This a key feature and perhaps the only thing missing. I would appreciate it!

This would assist with time efficiency during virtual class time.

Allow persons other than meeting organizer to control breakout rooms. The meeting organizer is to designate those person(s).
This is very useful to Higher Education and education administration in general.
Please make the option to create breakout rooms using the channels that are already created in the team. This would make it possible to have pre-made groups. With my middle school students, I want a seamless, easy way to move them between whole group and small groups like breakout rooms offer, but they tend not to talk to each other if they are with different people each class (as happens with the auto assigned rooms). I need a way to make consistent small groups so students can build their team culture and work together better. I already have their groups made with a channel for each group, but having to create their teams in breakout rooms every time is too clunky for when I want a quick (1-2 minute) exchange of ideas.
Dear MSTeams, I am a lecturer at University and I have a student cohort of 100+. My students are divided into project teams with 4 or 5 specific students. I would like to be able to have 2 owners in same meeting. I would like to be able to prepare my 20+ breakout rooms MANUALLY BEFORE the meeting starts. I can manually assort the students into their project team breakout rooms based on the Invitations not during the meeting. I would like to be able to repeat this meeting with same students breakout rooms assignments, automatically on same day, time each week.
At the moment this is not possible and takes too much time during the meeting to do manual breakout rooms.

Create a way to assign breakout rooms before the meeting starts based on those invited. When they log into the meeting, they would be automatically assign to the breakout room.

1. I would like to reuse the breakout rooms with the same attendees throughout the meeting (come together, go back to the same breakout room, come together, go back to same breakout room).
2. I would like to be able to assign the attendees (everyone invited to the meeting) to breakout rooms before the meeting starts.

We have been using Zoom to set up our breakout rooms for our math tutoring center that is open 6 days a week, for about 12 hours per day. Students visit on a first-come, first-serve basis and get moved into a tutor's breakout room from the main session. We have about 25 tutors on a CSV file and are able to upload easily into Zoom meetings. We need this to happen in TEAMS.
I am a teacher. i want to set up rooms ahead of time so I dont waste time in a meeting sorting students into groups. especially if I want to do break out rooms several times over a couple of weeks.
Zoom allows a csv upload in advance to pre-assign. Would be nice to have same functionality in Teams.
Preassigned and persistent breakout rooms groups would facilitate group work very nicely.

this would be great for organising groups for difference conference workshops
I love the new breakout rooms, but being able to pre-assign groups would be SO very helpful. We simply do not have enough time within the class period to individually assign students, and often groups are strategically organizes to maximize engagement and collaboration.
It would also be nice if I could save and re-apply group assignments.
