Ability to turn off student cameras
Sometimes students are not in control of what they share when their video is turned on. Sometimes they step away and forget to mute themselves, leave the meeting, or turn off their camera. Meeting presenters (ie, teachers) need to be able to turn off student cameras should this happen in order to preserve the privacy and dignity of our students while they practice using digital technologies.
I would add that this should be similar to the mute function. I want my students to be able to have cameras on during class because I have a performance-based classroom and this is the most efficient way to mark participation. However, just like a student may occasionally have background noise on their mic and need to be muted temporarily, an elementary student who does not know better may need to have their camera turned off temporarily while they go put on a shirt - or while their shirtless father fixes an issue. I see 700+ students and I cannot meet with each one individually to discuss these issues. A simple "camera off" function would be a quick solution.
