Ability to pause/turn off meeting chat (both during and after meeting)
I would like to disable & enable the chat function attached to a recurring meeting (or a past meeting). Students use the chat all hours and I can't be there to moderate.

Thank you for your feedback. The ability to enable and disable meeting chat in a meeting is now available. To learn more, please visit https://support.microsoft.com/office/change-participant-settings-for-a-teams-meeting-53261366-dbd5-45f9-aae9-a70e6354f88e.

Yes, I agree! It would be extremely helpful to be able to enable/disable the chat function.

Please no chat! This has served as a means of bullying, unkind and hurtful comments that I am unable to stop.

Teachers ought to have more control over chat functionality, as some students aren't making positive choices.

This seems like a no-brainer, Microsoft. We need to turn off chat as students will naturally try to socialize during class if they can.

This would be such a relief to be able to turn off the chat. We've had some bullying on there as well.

Please allow teachers the discretion to turn chat on or off.

I agree with giving teacher's the option to turn off chat during class time. I have sat in on classes and the kids are more interested in chatting with each other than listening to the teacher.

We are having huge problems in our school with students going into the chat outside of their class time and spamming. Kindergardners are doing this, not understanding that it is disruptive to the whole community when peoples' notifications start dinging. it is a HUGE PROBLEM!

Please allow teachers to turn off Teams chat! It's distracting, and takes us so much time monitor this, and deal with the ensuing problems. We are already maxed out on our time right now, please help by taking away this problem.

Please Please Please make it so teachers can pause chat. I supervise kids who can have very inappropriate behavior. Keeping an eye on the chat as fast as it can fly in a large class is very difficult. Also the chat can go on after the class is over. It's hard to stay on top of multiple classes of chats after the class is over!
It seems like this could leave school districts open to lawsuits with us not being able to shut chat down. -

It would be nice to turn off the chat option during session/live meeting. I have students sharing emojis during speech sessions and would like a way to turn off the chat so that students do not get distracted by the comments.

As a speech therapist, I do not have TEAMS set up for my individual groups, but I do have reoccurring meetings on my calendar. I need chat to be disabled, so students are not able to send messages during times outside of our scheduled meeting.

For teaching purposes it would be appropriate to allow the teachers to shut off the chat feature. First so they can open a specific time for questions and answers while they are available and can monitor the discussion. Second so that it can be shut down while that particular class/team meeting is over. There is no reason for students to be able to continue chatting at all hours.

We need to be able to turn the chat on or off during all teams meetings. Students are using the chat to bully and harass each other. It has become an extremely frustrating and distracting issue.

Make it possible to turn chat on and off as a whole or to stop the chat function for an individual user while the meeting in progress. Moderator/teacher should have fun control of all features for the younger students. The hand raise feature would allow teacher to call on a student and allow them to post a comment or question in chat.
