Thoughts from a School Teacher
Overall, a solid product. Here is the feedback of a schoolteacher after two weeks of using MS Teams for remote learning:
Please put assignments for ALL teams in one place and (2.) integrate it with the calendar function. My students can, but refuse to click on every team's "assignments" tab to see assignments. While this isn't an issue with younger grades, it's been a rather significant hurdle for my middle schoolers with nine different teachers.
On that note, planner does not communicate with calendar or assignments...I don't understand the function of this product given the inherent lack of integration (both retroactive and after creating new assignments).
The other tabs that are made in teams (ex: grades) should be optional (removeable by the teacher).
Finally, calls...I know this isn't what you needed to hear, but this is how MS can retain calls when competing against Zoom and other platforms.
If I as a presentee unmute someone, they shouldn't be able to unmute themselves.
If I as a presenter remove someone from a call, they shouldn't be allowed to rejoin without my permission.
It would be lovely to see more than four students, if possible.
If I share a PPT file to present, it should include my animations within the slide - not just the printout view to students please.
Students should not be able to end recording when I am the presenter.
If I am the presenter, students should not be allowed to write on the whiteboard (unless I give them permission).
This is a great product when working with adults or mature college students. With that said, using it with middle schoolers has exposed some UI challenges unique to younger demographics.
I work at an early adopting school of MS 1 to 1, please reach out if you have any questions.
