Add a global admin setting for the default role of meeting attendee
If you want to make meeting attendees Participants by default (so that they can't present, mute you and remove from a meeting), then you have to manually change meeting options of a particular meeting and set "Who can present?". Today this option can't be set globally by default in Teams admin center. Please add this feature.
Thank you for your feedback. We’re happy to announce the ability for admins to change the default value of ‘Who can present?’ in Meeting Options in the Teams client via the new parameter, DesignatedPresenterRoleMode.

@Alex please also add the same options for the 'meet now' feature in a channel. This is crucial for my organisation and probably thousands out there too.
upvote. And also give the global admin option to 'end the meeting for all' once the presenter leaves.

It must be part of the software.
A feature like a raised hand as in zoom is very important. This help to unmute student willing to ask question.
Automatic attendance of the participant.
Actually you don't want to just make this an Admin default policy because you have two different user scenarios in play. In a large education deployment (I'm talking state wide here in Australia) the Admin is Central IT. You need control at the Owner level too. Teachers are creating their own classes.
Scenario 1: The remote classroom where a teacher and students are coming together. The actual problem we are seeing is that students are turning off the teacher audio. You want to be able to configure a Meet Now by the owner so that any member is turned off by default. One might also argue that there is a new person type that is student. Maybe owner and member are too restrictive for education.
Scenario 2: Teachers talking with teachers. In this case you want to be able to hand control over to others but you might want to start the Meet Now with a specific person having full AV and others are initially setup as muted.
There's an extension to both user scenarios and that is where say two people are really running the meeting so you want to have more than one host who can control AV. In a class scenario this might be where two teachers are owners and the students are other members.
There are hundreds of schools running into this issue right now so this needs to be bumped up the priority list.

Hi all, we need students to be attendees by default, not presenters! This can be an admin policy or something similar in the UI for teachers to set
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE implement this NOW! We desperately need this especially with the COVID-19 pandemic preventing regular classes.

Please could you sort this out ASAP - we cannot use Teams for online teaching in our school until the teacher is the only presenter by default!

This would be great, we are having issues with some students thinking its funny to kick their classmates out.
Please do this now. To only allow teachers who are team owners be by default set as the only presenter. Students or members be set to attendee. Please make this change. Also please make global setting to mute all members and only by invitation unmute. Also students can stop recording of meeting. Please help teachers use Teams successfully

I'm not sure why it is not an option.
Yes please add this feature

I would like to see an additional role be made, some type of lesser presenter who cannot control settings, only present. Then a global default to set users with student licenses default to attendees. Last have a tool within the meeting to toggle between roles per user. I think that would help a lot of people out. Glad to have this suite of software though!
I believe it is one one the most awaited changes.

Much Needed to handle classrooms scenarios.
Yes, we need this update! Our school district recently allowed Teams for Students to be activated. The feature would be most helpful when we host Teams meetings with our students and classes.

Same here, in Europe, we need this update. We understand that Teams was made for collaboratingq not for muting the classmates, but niw we need your help. Waiting for news.

We have trained 100s of secondary school teachers to reach our students via MS Teams - but the lack of control they have over the students is a real barrier to us making a success of live teaching support. Please help us to make MS Teams a great solution.
Great idea especially now considering most schools around the world are remote learning!

Great feature!! I think is not only for School and Universities but for all Teams users, in every "1 to Many" meeting.

This shouldn't be an admin setting. This should be a Team owner setting.

Thank you Alex. Please also consider moving meeting options from the website to Teams application, i.e. this config should be available in the initial meeting setting in Calendar. We have just implemented Teams in our university and discussed about the setting - on lectures we expect only a lecturer to present but on labs students sometimes also presents something to a group. I think that in such a case the global setting "Who can present?" should be "Only me" and custom setting should be easy to set for teachers (just right in the Calendar meeting panel - our tutorials will be much more compact and readable).
