Hard mute students audio in a meeting (so they cannot unmute themselves)
Teachers should be able to mute students voices in a way that they cannot dis activate. This could be used for lecture. Or to stop students interrupting on purpose.

We have launched the ability for a presenter to ‘hard mute’ attendees. This feature gives meeting organizers the ability to mute one to many meeting participants while removing the muted participants’ ability to unmute themselves.

It appears that this doesn't work when someone calls into a meeting using the Audio Conference option. They join without the muted icon and are able to press *6 to unmute.

I think its is a good idea. I think teachers should be able to hard mute and unmute.

The last comment is a valid one, if we can hard mute students, we will also need to be able to turn that off and allow them to again unmute themselves during the meeting.

I don't like this idea sorry. I think its a terrible idea because then when us teachers want to ask a student something they can't unmute themselves to answer the question. There is also no way for teachers to unmute students

Your hard muting feature is pretty useless as it prevents students who are being called on by the teacher from unmuting. Then, the teacher needs to turn off the hard mute for everyone. This defeats the purpose. Why not add an "Ask to Unmute" button like in Zoom which will bypass the hard mute temporarily for individual students?

This is unbelievable. We are really having a hard time without the hard mute option. I would really like to know what was MS Teams team thinking when they rolled out the program without the option. Any student (out of a large class) could be tempted to unmute themselves.
And then how hard is it to implement such feature? How come all of your competitors have this and it is taking you literally months to roll it out. I am seriously considering switching to Zoom. I trusted you Microsoft. You failed me. -

Let teachers unmute students! As an early childhood educator it is extremely disruptive to the flow of a lesson to have very yound children have to navigate the muting button on their own.

It is Sep 20...where are hard mute and breakout rooms? Both are needed desperately as I teach K-1 special needs. I've really tried to stick with Teams, but I'm ready to switch to Zoom which has both. -

Has there been any progress on hard muting students? It’s mid-September, and Microsoft said they were working on adding this feature way back in June. It is really needed. Zoom has it.
